Bridgewater Hall

I was appointed Co-Leader of Manchester Camerata in 2016 and have been a member of the orchestra since 2013. I've thoroughly enjoyed covering both the Leader and Co-Leader roles with this fantastic orchestra. I feel so fortunate to have met and worked with our Music Director Gábor Takács-Nagy. His musical risk-taking and story-telling approach is a great fit with the orchestra's desire to transport our audiences emotionally.

"It was delightful from start to finish, lively and fresh sounding, with the Manchester Camerata playing with breathtaking skill and clearly enjoying themselves executing each piece. A joy to watch and hear."

Manchester Camerata love to have their own principals directing and enjoy a huge variety of genres in their projects. I've directed familiar works by Vivaldi and Grieg through to Piazzolla Tangos, Bartok Folk Dances and a Celtic Saxophone Concerto. It's also been fantastic to collaborate with soloists Jess Gillam, Francesca Dego and Jennifer Pike

As well as our major projects with Gabor, the orchestra enjoys collaborations with other artists. It was a joy to welcome back our previous leader Giovanni Guzzo to conduct and direct as well as the incredible accordion player Martynas Levickis. Our Italy tour with Martha Argerich was a personal highlight and the orchestra are delighted to be recording all 23 Mozart Piano Concertos with the effervescent Jean-Efflam Bavouzet on the Chandos label over the next few years. Read more about this project here.

Playing chamber music with the Manchester Camerata principals is always a joy. We enjoy playing both chamber music masterworks as well as fun, virtuosic arrangements by our incredibly talented Arranger-in-Residence Simon Parkin. We've played a wide variety of arrangements, from Scarborough Fair through to Eric Clapton, all showing off the capabilities of both the instruments and Camerata's principal players.

We're big supporters of the Royal Northern College of Music's Professional Experience Scheme here at Manchester Camerata. The PES scheme offers RNCM's top level senior students to gain real-world experience as ensemble musicians. Check out this video to hear me talking about the work Camerata musicians do alongside Gabor to create an invaluable learning experience for students.
